Altar Society

The purpose of the Altar Society (Art and Environment Ministry) is to create an atmosphere within the liturgical space that invites and inspires the assembly to full and conscious participation in the paschal mystery in keeping with the changing seasons of the liturgical year.

Committee members meet at intervals throughout the year to plan for the design, set up, removal and storage of the décor in correlation with each liturgical season.  Art and environment work is often sporadic and seasonal, with most of it being centered around the Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter seasons.  Most of the work is done during weekday mornings and/or afternoons in the church and/or hall.

The ministry is always interested in recruiting creative people, such as artists, seamstresses, crafters, interior and floral designers, or those who just enjoy working with their hands.  There must be a willingness to be open to new ideas and to work on group projects. For more information please email Terry Groel or call (805)495-7419. Click here to donate to the St. Jude Altar Society.

Easter Lily Donations-All parishioners are once again invited to join in creating a beautiful and joyful environment in which to celebrate the blessed Easter liturgy by donating Easter lilies.  This is a wonderful way to personally reflect our community within our worship space, especially by making dedications.  Dedication labels can be created at home before bringing your plant to the churchPlease just be sure to confine it to a size that will fit on the pot cover.  As always, if you prefer to make your dedication at the donation site, labels will be available for your use.  You may bring your lily donations to the stage in the hall on Holy Thursday or Good Friday from 8 am to 4pm or you may bring them to the church vestibule on Holy Saturday from 8am to 12 noon.  We thank you all for your past generosity in making the church reflect the glory of this holy season and we hope you will join in making it so again this year!

Christmas Poinsettias - Our wonderful tradition of inviting all parishioners to join in beautifying the sanctuary for Christmas with donated and dedicated poinsettias continues again this year.   As the Advent season begins, start thinking of the dedications you would like to make and how you would like to express them, perhaps by including a picture or drawing.   Labels can be created at home before bringing your plant to the churchPlease just be sure to confine it to a size that will fit on the pot cover.  If you prefer to make your dedication at the donation site, labels will be available for your use.  In order to maintain a somewhat coordinated look in the church, we ask that the poinsettias be of the traditional red color and a 6” pot size, which are widely available at grocery stores and the like. Each year your generous donations and dedications of poinsettias help create a beautiful and especially meaningful environment in which to celebrate Our Lord’s birth.  We thank you so very much in advance for your continuing generosity.
